Furniture Care

Care and Maintenance Suggestions
From PATIO PLACE and EBEL

To keep your Ebel furniture looking its best for years to come, we recommend some minimal care...

ALL-WEATHER WICKER CARE AND MAINTENANCE
Wash and rinse the weaving material and aluminum frame with a mild household detergent several times a season. This will remove dirt, body oils, chemicals and other substances. Heavy stains can be treated with household cleaners.

CUSHION AND UMBRELLA CARE AND MAINTENANCE
Keep cushions away from direct exposure to moisture and allow cushions and umbrella canopies to air-dry completely if wet. All cushion furniture should be cleaned periodically. Mildew forms on all surfaces and should be removed as it develops. Frequent maintenance is key due to the longevity of casual furniture. Follow the specific fabric instructions and always rinse thoroughly after cleaning. Remove suntan oil and lotions promptly. Cushions dry faster if they are allowed to stand on their sides while drying. Stains can be treated with a mild household cleaner. Consult a professional when treating heavy soils. Do not use bleach on printed fabrics and, of course, a commercially available outdoor fabric cleaner can extend the life of your fabric.

YELLOW BALAU
Yellow Balau is a very hard wood, comparable to teak in weight, strength and durability, and has a beautiful smooth grain in a variety of light brown shades. Contrary to teak, Balau can be painted if desired, giving groups an entirely different look.

KEMPAS
Kempas is a tropical medium hardwood suitable for outdoor use. Its uniform brown/reddish color and beautiful grain enhances any setting. Untreated, the wood will not deteriorate but rather turn to a silver-grey patina over the years while maintaining its strength and durability.

If not treated, Yellow Balau and Kempas wood will turn to a silver-grey patina over the years while maintaining its strength and durability. Due to the high density of Yellow Balau and Kempas, surface checks may occur over time, yet won't affect the structural integrity of the furniture. Yellow Balau and Kempas are air-dried before production and are harvested in Malaysia under strict government-controlled reforestation practices, in conformance with the Guidelines of the International Tropical Timber Organization (ITTO). Certificates are available upon request.

WOOD CARE
Wood, a natural product, needs attention! In order to maintain its natural beauty, an application of teak oil or other similar wood treatment is imperative prior to initial use of merchandise. After initial wood treatment, personal preference may dictate whether to keep the natural color or allow the wood to weather to a silver gray patina. To keep the natural color, oiling with teak oil is recommended 3-4 times per year, preferably with Ebel, Inc.'s Wood Guard 2000. Wood is alive and therefore, under certain weather conditions, will expand or contract. For this reason it is imperative to retighten all hardware 3-4 weeks after initial exposure to the elements and periodically thereafter. Detailed maintenance instructions come with each piece of Ebel, Inc.'s wood furniture.
